Statement by Dr. Sonia Ben Jaafar, Chief Executive Officer of Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation for Education.
“Today the Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation for Education joins the world in celebration of a pillar of the cultural diversity of humanity, the Arabic language. One of the most widely spoken languages in the world, the Arabic language has played a crucial role in the spread of knowledge and dissemination of sciences and philosophies throughout much of history. In light of the recent shifts towards online learning platforms, and in line with this year’s theme by UNESCO, ‘Arabic Language Academies: Necessity or Luxury?’, we believe that the Arabic language must not be overlooked across education.
Over the past five years, we have been working to support and promote high-quality education in the UAE and across the Arab region, providing over 1000 scholarships, supporting over 25,000 Emirati and Arab youth with up-skilling programs and helping regional universities improve their capacity to offer quality high education courses and programs online. As languages such as English and French gain in popularity due to advancements in online learning, we provide Arabic as an option for our Young Thinkers Program (YTP) users. Our mission is delivering education that will elevate the livelihood of Arab youth across the region.”
